Young Life Desert Cities

Kids to Camp (2023-2024)

The adolescent years present many challenges, forcing teens to confront hard decisions about drugs, alcohol, sex, peer pressure and bullying. Young Life Desert Cities, a non-denominational Christian organization, seeks to help disaffected adolescents thrive in the face of challenging cultural influences. For 20 years, our leaders have spent each day earning the right to talk with young people about meaning and purpose in their lives working to help them emerge as healthy adults and active participants in their communities. Our success stems from meeting kids on their turf and in their schools, listening to their stories, speaking their language, and earning the chance to introduce them to truer sources of truth and discovery. We are active in many middle and high schools across the Coachella Valley. Some of our clubs take place on-campus (Nellie Coffman MS, Palm Desert Charter MS, Desert Ridge Academy). Others take place off-campus with afternoon and evening activities (Shadow Hills High School, Palm Desert High School). In all of our activities, emphasis is placed on mentorship, belonging, encouragement and a respect for the value of each student who attends.

While our program runs all school year with weekly large group activities as well as small group mentorship, one of the crowning elements of the program involves a trip to a Young Life Camp. Young Life has a first-class property located in Northern Arizona where kids enjoy a week of wild excitement and deep reflection. Young Life camp provides a beautiful setting far removed from the pressures of everyday routines. Camp provides a chance for kids to respond to the call of greater purpose in the context of adventure and the company of trusted mentors.
