Social Emotional Multi-Purpose Learning Garden (2024-2025)

Our new Social Emotional- Multi- Purpose Learning Garden will feature various stations designed to foster student learning, creativity, and proficiency in science and math. It will cater to the diverse needs of all learners by providing hands-on experiences and engaging them in science and nature activities, thereby nurturing their creativity and fostering the development of cognitive, social-emotional, and critical thinking skills. Implementing this garden will provide crucial support for students with moderate/severe special needs, who greatly benefit from direct instruction and hands-on learning experiences. Westside Elementary is dedicated to serving all students and is enthusiastic about expanding our school gardening efforts to optimize learning and adapt instruction in Science and Mathematics. This project holds the potential to yield a lasting impact on our students and the broader Coachella Valley Community.

Art for Students (2023-2024)

Students at Westside in 2nd-6th grade will have the opportunity to participate in an amazing social-emotional art project “ Kindness Matters”. Students will reflect and paint on what kindness means to them and why kindness is essential at Westside Elementary. When completing the art project, students will be completing self-reflection portraits and kindness pictures of how it can be implemented school-wide. In addition, students will draw beautiful kind hearts that will demonstrate what a kind heart may look like when supporting others or serving our community. As a result, when students complete their art project they will have the opportunity to share with their peers what their project means to them and why kindness matters.
