Two Bunch Palms Elementary School

Counseling (2014-2015)

Two Bunch Palms Elementary is implementing a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system which includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate school behaviors to create positive school environments. Attention is focused on creating and sustaining a system that improves the community by making targeted behaviors less effective and desired behaviors more functional. Our first step in designing this system has been to identify 12 social skills that the staff will teach to the students.

The Anderson grant has provided the school site with time and personnel resources to conduct behavioral interventions and support groups during the school day through individual and group counseling sessions. Students will be referred by staff for 2 reasons: 1) to provide students with further instruction on social skills that have been taught in the classroom or 2.) to help them deal with social issues such as bullying, peer conflict resolution, and social skills. The school will be contracting with Jewish Family Services to provide the counseling support.
