Narrow Door

Food Distribution (2016-2017, 2015-2016)

The Narrow Door provides nutritious foods for families living at or below poverty level in the Western Coachella Valley. A community church in Cathedral City helps to volunteer and distribute food boxes to the community around their church, and we want to expand the amount of food distributed and the number of families that we help. Currently our target geographic area is Cathedral City and Thousand Oaks; in "Arm One" of our long-term plan, we have developed three off-campus sites for food distribution: Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, and La Quinta.

In Arm Two, we hope to establish three mobile kitchens: one for food preparation and the other two to provide hot meals throughout the week at sites in both East and West Valley. Arm Three is "Bridging the Gap," which is the volunteer arm: volunteers will help deliver food boxes to families. As a result of our Three Arms of Growth process, we hope to expand our reach as people in need are fed and volunteers become aware of their needs. Relationships will grow between those serving and those being served, which will facilitate positive change across the communities.
