McCarthy Family Child Development and Training Center

Family Literacy (2016-2017, 2014-2015, 2013-2014)

The McCarthy Child Development & Training Center provides parenting classes for low-income families in the Coachella Valley. Many of these parents are adult students attending College of the Desert. The course comes in a three-part series, with classes on infants and toddlers, preschool children, and young school age children. Parents also enroll in the Family Literacy Program, where they learn to help their kids learn basic vocabulary and language skills. Families also go on various field trips to local attractions like the library, grocery store, and children’s museum. Essentially, this program helps parents surmount their personal obstacles and raise successful kids.
