Girls Rising

Coachella Valley Mentor Program (2023-2024)

Girls Rising provides mentorship to at-risk girls to empower them to see their value and reach their full potential. Over 60% of the Mentees have experienced significant trauma such as abuse, homelessness or poverty and others can simply benefit from having a positive female role model in their lives. Through Girls Rising, Mentees meet with their Mentors two to four times each month. Mentors are responsible for arranging activities for their Mentees, with the goal of spending meaningful time together, and often include walks, sharing in a meal and going to the beach.

Mentees are referred to Girls Rising from a variety of sources including pediatricians, family members, guardians, teachers, counselors, therapists and social workers. To qualify for the program, a girl must come from a single parent household and live under the Federal Poverty Level. Most girls attend a Title 1 school in underserved communities located throughout the Coachella Valley.

During the grant period, Girls Rising will achieve the following goals:

-Maintain a minimum of 15 Mentor/Mentee matches, as measured by participant and volunteer records.

-Provide a minimum of 6 free community events for girls and Mentors, as measured by registration records.

-Provide STEM activities and workshops to a minimum of 15 girls and Mentors, as measured by registration records.
