Girls Learn Young Women's Empowerment (2025-2026)

Girls Learn International (GLI), a program of the Feminist Majority Foundation, is educating and energizing middle and high school students to boldly take action for human rights, gender equality, and access to equitable education in their schools and communities. The Young Women’s Empowerment at Coachella Valley High School works on a variety of issues in the community, including women’s art exhibits, environmental education, menstrual product drives, mental health, and girls’ empowerment through sports.

In March of 2026, Coachella Valley students will participate in the two-day National Young Feminist Leadership Conference, a day-long Congressional Visit Day, and visits to national museums in Washington, DC. Students will learn about critical domestic and global feminist issues, receive training in state and federal legislative advocacy, and build community with activists working for justice nationwide. Congressional Visit Day, on Capitol Hill, begins with a briefing and training session led by congressional aides and an address from a US Congressperson. Students meet with lawmakers from their home states and districts at their Capitol Hill offices, discussing pressing issues of concern. By allowing students to engage directly with their representatives in Washington, DC, civics education transforms from the theoretical to the practical. The first time in DC for nearly all of the high schoolers, this conference gives students the chance to have their voices heard in the place where the laws that impact their lives are made.
