Field Trip to Missions (2024-2025)
Our goal with these mission trips is to expose our 4th graders to the curriculum they learn in social studies hands on. They will visit Mission San Gabriel, Mission San Luis Obispo, Mission San Juan Capistrano, and Mission San Diego De Alcala. By visiting these four sites our students will connect to their states history allowing them to see first hand the architectural, cultural, and historical significance the missions had. Additionally it offers students a chance to learn about topics such as agriculture, trade, and religion during that period. Finally vising the missions can inspire curiosity and interest in history fostering a sense of pride and appreciation on the states heritage among students.
The teachers that will be participating in this project are: Maggie Elguera, Mark Escobedo, Robyn Hamron, and Trisha Newton. All at Della S Lindley Elementary.
Choir Risers (2023-2024)
At Della Lindley Elementary School in Thousand Palms, all 600 students have music class every week for 50 minutes and perform a large Winter Concert annually. The DSL Choir and Della Drums enrichment ensembles provide additional opportunities for musical interaction and performance. Music supports the academic, emotional, and social learning education of each student, and sharing music with our community is a vital part of music education. Music learning thrives at Della Lindley!
Students perform throughout the school year on the stage in our cafeteria. After 40 years using choir risers that pose safety, space and logistical concerns, our project allows for the purchase of new choral risers that will safely accommodate all performers during musical performances. The safety, size, and durability of the new choir risers will allow flexibility and consistent use by many groups in our school community for decades to come.
Our school loves to showcase the talents of all of our students and share music with our community members. We are thrilled that the new choir risers will ensure that performers are safe, comfortable, and visible while sharing our programs and music!

Coding and Virtual Reality (2020-2021)
The purpose of this project is to utilize technology to improve student's background knowledge of their world and enhance their coding skills. While using the technology, we will be supporting state standard instruction and preparing students for careers in coding and other technology fields. For example, Beebots not only teaches basic coding, but can be utilized along our math curriculum to teach shapes, addition, subtraction, number recognition. It can also be used in word recognition, rhyming, and other language art related curriculum. Virtual reality can help support students in science and history by providing them with life-like experiences in each. Through the use of an LFD, Google Maps, and Google Expeditions, the students will better understand their community, country, and major historical events. We can provide students access to the world around them and enrich their cultural awareness and responsiveness through virtual travel. Overall, this project can benefit students with increased exposure to technology, real word examples, background knowledge, and increase cultural awareness.
